Mark is a Research Associate at the UN Business and Human Security Initiative of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He is also a consultant specializing in Private Sector Development, with a focus on fragile and conflict-affected settings. He has over 25 years of experience in the field of Responsible Business, Value Chain Analysis, ESG (environmental, social and governance) risks and impacts, human rights due diligence, human security, conflict sensitivity, security and peace building. His main focus is to understand and improve policies and practices of businesses and investors to contribute to responsible and peaceful development in fragile settings. He has worked in Cameroon, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Uganda, Colombia, Iraq, Lebanon and Pakistan. Mark has worked with businesses, research centres, NGOs, governments and multilateral institutions, including the World Bank/IFC, UNDP, ITC and IOM. He has extensive experience in agriculture, forestry, agribusiness (palm oil, biofuels, coffee, cocoa, tropical fruits, flowers), food and beverages, extractives (mining, oil and gas) and renewable energy.
